Job Title: Senior Database Administrator
 

Job Overview:
Contemporary Staffing Solutions is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our client to enhance the speed, reliability, and scalability of mission-critical database systems. Based in Philadelphia, PA, this hybrid contract-to-hire role requires onsite presence Tuesday through Thursday. The position centers on advanced SQL Server performance tuning, ensuring sub-second transactions and optimizing high-volume systems for peak efficiency. Compensation:
Up to $71.91/hour
 

Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, hybrid (onsite Tues–Thurs)
 

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Database Administrator:
• Drive advanced performance tuning initiatives to achieve sub-second transactions and resolve system bottlenecks.
• Redesign and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and configurations to improve responsiveness in high-volume environments.
• Monitor, diagnose, and troubleshoot performance issues using leading database tools and methodologies.
• Manage essential DBA functions, including installations, upgrades, high availability solutions, and backup/recovery strategies.
• Partner with developers and cross-functional teams to improve database interactions and mentor colleagues on best practices.
 

Qualifications and Skills for the Senior Database Administrator:
• Approximately 10 years of database experience (a mix of development and DBA backgrounds considered).
• Expert knowledge of SQL Server in enterprise environments with a track record of optimizing high-transaction systems.
• Hands-on experience with query tuning, blocking/memory troubleshooting, and database performance tools (Idera or similar).
• Familiarity with DDL monitoring and openness to learning additional scripting languages.
• Degree in a related field or Microsoft SQL Server DBA certification preferred, though equivalent experience is equally valued.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to mentor and support team growth.
• Exposure to large-scale financial or healthcare systems is highly desirable.
